The number of large families in Russia has increased by 17.4% in two years. This was announced on July 16 by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova at the government hour in the State Duma.

"In recent years, we have seen an increase in the number of large families. Now <...> their number is 2.8 million, and in recent years the number has increased by 17.4%," Golikova said.

She noted that the number of children in these same families has reached almost 8.9 million people.

Earlier, on July 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that supporting a large and strong family with many children in Russia is an absolute strategic priority. According to him, this is a question of the future of the people, who can preserve the values passed down by their ancestors.
