An eyewitness reported a pungent smell on the street before the gas explosion in a house near Novosibirsk

Before the gas explosion in an apartment building, residents of the village of Krasny Yar in the Novosibirsk region felt a pungent smell on the street. Alexander, a security guard at a local school, told Izvestia about this on July 16.

"They complained to me about the smell in the apartment next to the house where the school is. We went there and smelled gas right next to the house, near the entrance. <...> As soon as I returned to my post, I heard a bang. When I leave, the building has already been demolished," the man clarified.

An eyewitness compared the sound of the explosion to the pop of a burst plastic bag. According to Alexander, the glass in the school building where he works cracked as a result of the incident.

A gas explosion in an apartment building near Novosibirsk occurred on the morning of July 16. Shortly after, the Ministry of Health of the region reported that one person was killed and one injured due to the incident. As a result of the incident, a criminal case was opened under Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Provision of services that do not meet safety requirements").
