Seven rioters at Makhachkala airport sentenced to up to 15 years in prison

The Stavropol Regional Court has handed down a verdict in a criminal case against seven residents of the Republic of Dagestan for participating in riots at Makhachkala airport in 2023. This was announced on June 16 by the press service of the department on its website.

According to the press service of the ministry, on October 29, 2023, Mikayil Razakov, Jamal Ibavov, Bashir Magomedov, Ilyas Nasuev, Kamil Ibragimkhalilov, Ruslan Murtazaliev, Arslan Magomedov took part in mass riots at the Uytash airport with violence motivated by hatred and hostility towards Israeli citizens.

It is specified that the attackers also refused to comply with the demands of law enforcement officers. As a result of illegal actions, the defendants destroyed airport property worth more than 24 million rubles and violated security requirements.

According to the agency, illegal actions were committed against 30 representatives of the authorities, some of them suffered bodily injuries. The court sentenced seven of the above to imprisonment for a term of 14 to 15 years.

"All the convicts will serve the first three years in prison, and the rest of the period in a high—security penal colony. In addition, each of them was given an additional punishment in the form of restriction of liberty for a period of two years," the ministry said in a statement.

The riots at Makhachkala Airport began on the evening of October 29, 2023. The participants came with anti-Israel posters and chanted slogans in support of Palestine. At some point, part of the crowd broke down the entrance doors and broke into the terminal building of the airline. The damage caused to the airport amounted to more than 285 million rubles.

Later, in August 2024, the first five defendants were sentenced to up to nine years in the case of riots at the Makhachkala airport. They are serving their sentences in general regime colonies. In May 2025, a court in the Stavropol Territory sentenced four more residents of Dagestan to 10 years in a penal colony.
