Szijjarto pointed to the accumulation of errors in the EU's economic policy
The European Union (EU) is accumulating mistakes in economic policy. This was announced on July 16 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
"It is obvious that Brussels is accumulating mistakes in economic policy. It was not possible to reach a good agreement on customs cooperation, although it was absolutely clear what needed to be done," he said during his speech, a recording of which was posted on the politician's YouTube channel.
Szijjarto added that the EU needed to reduce the duties applied to the US earlier this year. According to him, since this did not happen, a very important basis for the possibility of effective customs cooperation was lost.
On July 12, US President Donald Trump announced plans to impose 30 percent duties on exports from the European Union from August 1, 2025.
Bloomberg reported on June 25 that EU countries are preparing to take retaliatory measures if the United States imposes duties on goods from Europe. In addition, officials from the association expect that the United States will maintain some duties even after the end of trade negotiations. They are currently preparing a retaliatory list of tariffs on €95 billion worth of American goods.
