On July 16, Vladimir Hryunov, a Russian sports manager, world-famous promoter, organizer of professional boxing and full-contact combat, told the Izvestia News Center about the launch of a martial arts school in new territories of Russia together with Jeff Monson, a Russian athlete, deputy of the State Assembly of the Kurultai of the Republic of Bashkortostan of the seventh convocation, Vice President of the Wrestling Federation of the Republic of Bashkortostan..

According to Hryunov, the project is focused on educating young people through sports and patriotic values. He stressed that the idea to develop a sports network in these regions did not arise by chance — in the new historical conditions, such initiatives are becoming especially significant. He noted that he sees Monson as a like-minded person who is ready to share his experience and participate in educational and social programs. The plans include training, competitions and the formation of a full—fledged training system for athletes.

Hryunov also stated that he intends to use the accumulated knowledge and experience in the field of professional sports for the benefit of the state. He considers sport as an important resource contributing to the development of society, and promised to continue working in this direction.

Monson is 54 years old, during his career he has fought many fights in mixed martial arts: he won 61 victories, suffered 26 defeats, two fights ended in a draw. His last fight in MMA was on March 25, 2017, against Nikolai Savilov, when a draw was recorded.

In 2018, Monson received a Russian passport, and on May 23, 2023, he renounced his American citizenship. In an interview with Izvestia, he explained that he had decided to renounce US citizenship because Washington was helping Kiev to attack Russia. The fighter also added that three of his friends had already died in Donbass.

Monson announced his intention to renounce his American citizenship in February, explaining his position by disagreeing with the policy pursued by the United States. He stressed that he loves Russia and he "likes everything here."
