Russia plans to introduce pet registration starting in 2026. It follows from the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation on July 16.
The document, the contents of which are cited by TASS, specifies that the bill should be prepared by May next year. The document will be developed by the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Finance.
The initiative involves the introduction of regulations for the accounting and labeling of pets. Information about them will be uploaded to the Federal State Information System in the Field of Veterinary Medicine (FGIS VetIS), which will help identify animals and their owners.
The document is currently undergoing internal approval.
On July 7, the Russian government signed an action plan to tighten responsibility for the treatment of pets. It clarifies that the plan includes the development and submission to the government of drafts of a number of federal laws, including the regulation of activities "for the maintenance and breeding of domestic and wild animals, as well as the introduction of a system to respond to citizens' complaints about animals causing harm to life and health or the threat of its infliction.
