Montenegro extradites gang member accused of fraud to Russia

Montenegro is extraditing Evgeny Dorofeev, a gang member who is accused of committing fraud with an accident, to Russia. This was reported on July 16 on the website of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation.

"According to the investigation, from January 2018 to August 2022, Evgeny Dorofeev was part of an organized group that operated in Ulyanovsk under the leadership of Maxim Chemidronov," the publication says.

The men staged an accident, after which they issued the necessary documents and received payments due to the alleged occurrence of insurance claims. In addition, Dorofeev threatened a witness who could tell the truth about his activities. As a result, the accused persuaded him to give false testimony.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, earlier members of the criminal community, including the organizer, had already been brought to criminal responsibility. However, Dorofeev managed to escape from law enforcement agencies. A preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen for the accused. In December 2022, Dorofeev was put on the international wanted list.

The accused is being extradited to face criminal charges under Part 2 of Article 210 of the Criminal Code ("Participation in a criminal community"), Part 4 of Article 159.5 of the Criminal Code ("Insurance fraud") and Part 2 of Article 309 of the Criminal Code ("Forcing a witness to give false testimony").

"Accompanied by employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and the National Interpol Bureau of the Russian Interior Ministry, the accused will be transported through Turkey to Moscow," the Russian Prosecutor General's Office said.
