The Silk Road Rally Marathon has reached Mongolia
The Silk Road International Rally Marathon has reached Mongolia. The route of the special stage with a length of more than 200 km consists of a tangle of turns, dry riverbeds and rolling steppe between hills, so every maneuver must be verified. At the same time, the air is heated to 30 degrees, and the highway itself is heated from the heat. On July 16, Izvestia reported on how the race was going.
Roman Rusinov from the G-Drive Racing team is one of the most experienced racers of the race. But even he admits that the track is very treacherous — it forced the pilots not only to slow down, but even to stop completely.
"There was a huge amount of overtaking, today we had to stop ten times, let someone pass, try to catch up with someone, overtake. That is, when you have a huge amount of dust at 300-400 m, you don't see anything. When you can't see anything, getting into a huge pit is literally two seconds. That's why our strategy was "I don't see it today, I'm not eating," he shared.
The Mongolian land gave the racers a severe test: trucks flew off the track, a pair of motorcycles and the car of the GAZ RAID SPORT team lost its wheels. So, for Rusinov's colleague Anastasia Nifontova, the rally marathon is over. She was running second, but eventually dropped out of the race when she chose the wrong path after the coup.
"Mongolia is characterized by the fact that it has either sand or steppe roads with good washouts, which are not visible even at a distance of 50-100 m. In my opinion, it is necessary to listen to your navigator and believe the legend provided by the organizers, because there is no other way," said Mikhail Shklyaev, the pilot of the GAZ RAID SPORT team.
Also, a new challenge awaits the riders: a ring stage with a length of more than 200 km. The route, which runs along rocky trails, promises to be one of the most scenic along the entire route of the rally marathon.
On the eve of the Silk Road rally marathon, it reached Buryatia. The third stage of the exciting race finished in Ulan-Ude. Anton Shibalov's crew from KAMAZ-master showed the best time in the truck standings. The winner overcame the special stage in 2 hours and 30 minutes.
