Tourism in Eastern Finland is under threat due to the absence of Russian tourists. This was reported by Yle on July 16, citing representatives of the tourism industry.

"Many travel companies in Eastern Finland are in trouble because Russian tourists no longer come to the area," the article says, according to RIA Novosti.

It is noted that currently they are trying to attract tourists to Finland from Central Europe, but this "presents difficulties." For example, one of the German carriers cancelled flights to Savonlinna due to a small number of tickets sold.

According to Visit Finland, some establishments in Finland had to be closed due to the lack of visitors, and the decline in income in the country affected all entrepreneurs.

On June 27, the European Parliament (EP) closed the consideration of the petition of Russian-speaking residents of Finland to open the border with the Russian Federation. The applicants pointed out that the closure of the border violates the laws of the European Union (EU), negatively affects Finnish residents who have ties to the Russian Federation, interfered with postal services and harmed the economy of the eastern regions of the Scandinavian country.
