- Kallas announced the transfer of proposals to Slovakia for the adoption of new sanctions against the Russian Federation.
Slovakia has received proposals for agreeing to the 18th package of anti-Russian sanctions. This was announced on July 15 by the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, during a press conference following a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
She expressed regret that the European Union (EU) could not reach an agreement on a new package of sanctions against Russia, and stressed that the bloc was very close to convincing Slovakia to take their side.
"The [European] Commission has given Slovakia what it asked for, now the ball is on their side," Kallas said at a press conference broadcast on the Reuters news agency's YouTube channel.
Earlier in the day, the foreign ministers of the EU member states failed to adopt the 18th package of anti—Russian sanctions. Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto shared that at the meeting a representative of "one of the largest and most influential European countries" stressed the ineffectiveness of the previous 17 packages of sanctions against Russia.
