Poland has adopted a bill to extend the protection of Ukrainian refugees
The Polish government has adopted a bill extending special protection and benefits for refugees from Ukraine until March 2026. This was announced on July 15 by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic.
"At today's meeting of the Council of Ministers, a draft law on amendments to the law on assistance to citizens of Ukraine in connection with the armed conflict on the territory of this country was adopted, submitted by the Minister [of Internal Affairs] Tomasz Semoniak," the agency said in a statement on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
It is clarified that the amendments relate to the extension of the legal stay of Ukrainian citizens until March 4, 2026, with the gradual abandonment of emergency mechanisms. Also, the support measures of the Polish government will be provided only to persons from vulnerable groups.
On May 14, refugee support coordinator Oksana Pestrikova reported that Polish residents had changed their attitude towards Ukrainian refugees for the worse in three years, and Poles were asking them to return to their homeland. According to her, in 2022, Polish citizens were friendlier to Ukrainians, and now refugees are trying not to speak Ukrainian in public places.
