The Russian State Duma has adopted in the second reading a bill that obliges land owners to take measures to combat plants dangerous to humans and the environment, including Sosnovsky hogweed.

According to the draft, dangerous types of invasive (alien) plants include viable plants of any kind that are harmful to human life and health, as well as the environment. At the same time, such an initiative obliges land owners to take measures to destroy dangerous species of such plants.

"Land rights holders and holders of public easements are required to take measures to protect the environment from the spread of dangerous types of invasive (alien) plants and to destroy such plants," the draft text says.

It is noted that this project amends the Land Code and other legislative acts of the Russian Federation. The third reading is scheduled for July 16 this year.

Earlier that day, lawyer Timur Hardy said that you can get a fine for cultivating hogweed in a suburban area. He noted that in many regions of Russia, you can get a fine from 2 thousand rubles to 5 thousand rubles for Sosnovsky hogweed.
