- The United States reported on the White House's call to congressmen not to promote sanctions against Russia
The administration of US President Donald Trump last week called on Congress to refrain from considering Senator Lindsey Graham's bill (included in the Russian list of terrorists and extremists) on the introduction of new anti-Russian sanctions. This was reported by Time magazine on July 15, citing a source.
It is noted that last week the White House urged lawmakers to refrain from implementing the Graham bill, since the American leader is not interested in this.
"Trump doesn't want this," an anonymous source told Time.
The day before, Trump said that the United States would impose secondary duties of 100% on Russia if a settlement of the Ukrainian conflict was not reached in 50 days. He also stressed that he supports the congressional initiative on sanctions against Russia, but "does not yet know whether it will be necessary."
Later, on July 15, Alexei Zhuravlev, deputy chairman of the State Duma's defense committee, said that Trump's duties on Russia and its partners would hit the economy of the United States itself. According to him, currently the Russian side has almost no trade with the United States.
