The European Union (EU) is considering the possibility of canceling the visa-free regime with Georgia due to the suppression of protests in the country. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on July 15, citing diplomats.

"European diplomats will discuss plans to cancel the visa-free regime with Georgia in protest against the suppression of a peaceful protest by the ruling Georgian Dream party," the article says.

It is noted that the abolition of the visa-free regime is considered as one of the possible measures. At the same time, the EU has been refraining from any action against the ruling Georgian Dream party for several months, as it has faced "opposition from a small group of EU countries."

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on June 12 that the EU was wary of the Georgian government and considered it a "beast." He noted that despite the fact that the "global liberals" tried to interfere in the country's politics in 2022, Georgia managed to maintain its government.

In March, MEP Tomasz Zdechowski said that if the abolition of the visa-free regime with Georgia is accepted, the EU does not rule out the introduction of new sanctions against Tbilisi as part of the initiative.
