- In Irkutsk, a robot surgeon performed cyst removal surgery on a five-year-old child
In Irkutsk, a robot surgeon performed a unique operation on a five-year-old child to remove an ileum cyst. Yuri Kozlov, the chief physician of the regional children's clinical hospital, told Izvestia on July 15.
"We performed one of the rare operations that is very rarely performed in the world at all using a robotic system. <... > Everything went well <... > We hope that the child will be able to eat on his own in the near future and will leave the walls of our hospital in a couple of days," he said.
It is noted that the use of such a robot is necessary for suturing without unnecessary blood loss in a confined space, as well as with a small incision. At the same time, the surgeon controls the movements of the equipment using a joystick.
The robot's 3D visualization also helped identify an anomaly among the patient's intestinal loops, while instruments with seven degrees of freedom allowed for suturing.
It is specified that only a few hospitals in Russia have such installations.
On May 13, specialists from the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital (RDKB) The Russian Ministry of Health has restored the face of a five-year-old boy who was seriously injured by a tractor. It was noted that the operation was successful, and the child's full recovery took 12 days, while the functions and facial expressions were completely preserved.
