The NATO initiative to promptly deliver American weapons to Ukraine through its allies remains under discussion. This was announced on July 15 in an interview with Izvestia by American political scientist Malek Dudakov.

"In fact, there are still more questions than answers about this initiative. First of all, the alliance itself does not have budgets for the purchase of weapons. This means that it will be necessary to negotiate with each of the NATO members, and many of them face acute budgetary problems," the source said.

The expert noted that in countries such as the United Kingdom, France and Germany, the authorities are seeking to increase funding for their own military-industrial complex (MIC), rather than investing in American weapons. According to him, it will be difficult to find funds quickly.

"So far, all these conversations remain at the level of discussions, that is, we do not see any specific project for the purchase of American weapons, and it is difficult to evaluate it. Therefore, it is premature to say that this will somehow affect the situation on the battlefield," Dudakov said.

The political scientist also pointed out problems with the production facilities of the US military-industrial complex, noting that, for example, Patriot missiles for air defense systems are produced only 300-400 units per year. He added that Kiev needs much more of these weapons.

"There are certainly risks of escalation, but so far it all looks like an attempt to simply come up with some kind of ostentatious plan for US President Donald Trump to fend off pressure from hawks in Washington politics, which requires him to toughen his rhetoric and actions against Russia," the expert concluded.

On July 14, at a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump said that the United States and the European Union (EU) had reached an agreement on the supply of weapons to Ukraine. According to him, the weapons will be produced by the American side, and European countries will pay for them.
