Many people believe that heart problems are the lot of the elderly and it's worth starting to monitor the cardiovascular system no earlier than 45 years old. However, in practice, the symptoms of an "aging heart" are increasingly manifested in young people — 25-35 years old. Evgeny Kokin, cardiologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), told Izvestia on July 18 about how to recognize early signals and not miss the development of cardiovascular pathology.

According to the doctor, the symptoms of an "aging heart" are often disguised as overwork and ignored.

"If you wake up feeling exhausted and exhausted even after a weekend off, it may not just be overwork," Kokin said.

According to him, in case of insufficiency, the heart loses its ability to fully pump blood, as a result of which the organs are deficient in oxygen and nutrients. This causes chronic fatigue, weakness, and even chest pain. If there is a burning sensation or pain in the chest during normal walking or climbing stairs, it may be angina pectoris. A particularly alarming symptom is pain that goes away after a few minutes of rest or after taking nitroglycerin.

"The feeling of lack of air, especially during physical exertion or in a horizontal position, is an alarming signal. It indicates that the heart cannot cope with the amount of work and oxygen starvation occurs in the tissues. The most dangerous are nocturnal attacks of shortness of breath, which interfere with sleep and rest," Kokin said.

Kokin clarified that to relieve symptoms, it is necessary to start taking medications, supplement treatment with breathing exercises and adjust the level of physical activity taking into account the individual condition. A balanced diet also helps to support heart function.

In addition, rapid heartbeat, intermittent breathing, and a feeling of tremors in the chest are clear signs of a heart rhythm disorder. Arrhythmia can be triggered not only by heart pathologies, but also by thyroid disorders, stress, poisoning, or alcohol abuse.

Kokin advised that in case of any pulse failures, do not delay contacting a specialist. To make an accurate diagnosis, a doctor may prescribe an ECG, daily monitoring, or other modern research methods.

According to statistics, cardiovascular diseases remain the main cause of death in Russia. In 2021, the death rate from these diseases increased by 12% compared to the previous year. And one of the main reasons is late diagnosis and disregard for the recommendations of specialists.

"The sooner you see a doctor at the first sign, the higher the chance of maintaining heart health and preventing the development of dangerous complications. The aging of the heart is not a question of age, but of lifestyle and self—care," concluded Kokin.

Stanislav Ionov, Professor of the Department of Therapy at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, said on June 25 that the symptoms preceding a stroke depend on its cause. According to him, hemorrhagic stroke occurs with hypertension, when blood vessels rupture and hemorrhage occurs in the brain.
