The doctor gave advice on recovery from food poisoning
In summer, cases of food poisoning caused by the active multiplication of bacteria in products against the background of heat have become more frequent. Patients complained of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. On July 16, Elena Khokhlova, a nutritionist and Doctor of medical Sciences, told Izvestia about this.
"The most serious complication is dehydration. It occurs due to the loss of a large volume of fluid along with gastric contents and stool. Fluid deficiency negatively affects the functioning of the heart, kidneys, brain and other organs," the expert said.
According to the nutritionist, food poisoning often caused inflammation of the gastrointestinal mucosa, impaired motility of the stomach and intestines, as well as exacerbations of chronic liver and pancreatic diseases.
The speed of care directly affects the development of complications after food poisoning. In the first stages, it is necessary to take activated carbon or another sorbent, strictly following the instructions. In parallel, it is important to replenish the lost fluid with the help of saline solutions, for example, "Regidron". Bed rest should be observed and symptoms should be closely monitored. You should consult a doctor at temperatures above 38 degrees, severe abdominal pain, the appearance of blood in vomit or stool, as well as if signs of intoxication persist for longer than a day.
Proper nutrition plays a key role in recovery. The basic principle of building a menu is to exclude annoying products and ensure that the necessary items arrive.
"In the early days, switch to a gentle diet: liquid soup, porridges on water (oatmeal, buckwheat), baked apples, boiled rice, vegetable purees, steamed meat patties, steamed fish. Avoid fatty foods, spicy condiments, alcohol, fast food, and raw vegetables and fruits. Limit your intake of fats, salt, sugar, and simple carbohydrates. Eat often, in small portions, slowly chewing your food," Khokhlova said.
The doctor also clarified that the inclusion of vitamins and minerals helps to support the immune system during rehabilitation. The approximate menu looked like this: for breakfast — an omelet of proteins and buckwheat, for lunch — vegetable soup and chicken breast with stewed zucchini, for dinner - steamed fish cutlets with rice and dried fruit compote.
The rehabilitation period lasts about two weeks. As the specialist emphasized, following a diet and regime significantly accelerates recovery and helps to avoid exacerbation of chronic gastrointestinal diseases.
Gastroenterologist Ekaterina Kashukh, an expert doctor at the Hemotest Laboratory, shared her recommendations on safe nutrition in the summer on June 13 in an interview with Izvestia. She stressed that in hot weather, the risk of food poisoning increases significantly, especially due to perishable products.
