The Russian Ministry of Transport has prepared a draft law according to which all regions will have the right to determine the list of buses that can travel in designated lanes for public transport. The document has been published on the Federal Portal of Draft Regulatory Legal Acts.

We are talking about vehicles weighing over 5 tons and with a capacity of more than eight passengers. Currently, only the cities of federal significance — Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sevastopol - have the authority to determine the list of buses for driving along the allocated areas. The Ministry of Transport noted that with the innovation, each entity will be able to make decisions taking into account regional specifics and urban infrastructure, as well as the needs of residents.

"First of all, this concerns tourist transport and transportation services for mass events. The initiative will reduce travel time and create more comfortable conditions for travel and recreation," the ministry said.

The draft law with amendments to the Federal Law "On Road Safety" has been submitted for public discussion. The document was prepared as part of the government's instructions to improve conditions for tourism.

Earlier, on June 11, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that 500 km of dedicated lanes were already operating in the capital, and about 40 km more were planned to be introduced by the end of 2026. Thanks to the allocation, the speed of urban transport has increased 2-4 times, and the travel time for passengers has been reduced, he noted.
