Two Ukrainian Armed Forces shooters were sentenced to 16 years in a penal colony for invading the Kursk region.

The 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced two riflemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to 16 years in prison for invading the Kursk region. This was reported on the website of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office on July 15.

"[Sergey] Baranyuk on September 1, 2024 and [Alexander] On January 16, 2025, Vysotsky, being armed with combat automatic small arms, ammunition for it and explosive devices, as part of groups of military personnel from their units illegally invaded the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region and proceeded deep into its territory in order to carry out terrorist activities in the village of Kamyshevka," the publication says.

As reported by Gazeta.Ru", the militants, being near the settlement, observed the actions of the Russian military, transmitted information about them. In addition, Baranyuk and Vysotsky also tried to disorganize the activities of state authorities and local governments, intimidated citizens, and prevented the evacuation of the population.

According to the Russian Prosecutor General's Office, the militants were detained by Russian military personnel on February 1. They were in custody until sentencing. As a result, Baranyuk and Vysotsky were found guilty under clauses "a" and "b" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Commission by a group of persons by prior agreement of a terrorist act that entailed grave consequences"). It is specified that they will serve the first four years in prison, the rest of the time in a high—security penal colony.

Earlier, on June 25, it was reported that three Ukrainian Armed Forces militants were sentenced to 16 years in prison for invading the Kursk region. They were found guilty under paragraphs "a" and "b" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("The commission by a group of persons by prior agreement of a terrorist act, which entailed the onset of grave consequences").
