The European Union (EU) countries may agree on a new package of sanctions against Russia as early as Tuesday, July 15. This was stated by the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, before the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the European Union.

She expressed hope that EU members will be able to reach a decision on the 18th package of sanctions. Callas stressed that they are already "very close" to this.

"We hope that the 18th package of sanctions will be adopted today or tomorrow. I hope that this will happen today, but there is still a lot to be done," she said.

In addition, the head of the European diplomacy also hopes to agree on a new reduction in the "ceiling" of prices for Russian oil at the level of the G7 countries.

"This idea [lowering the ceiling on oil prices] is alive and well. We hope that we will be able to reach agreement at the G7 level. <...> I also hope that the United States will move forward with sanctions against Russia in order to exert pressure," she added.

The Politico newspaper reported on June 30 that the adoption of the 18th package of sanctions against Russia in the European Union was postponed due to disagreements with a number of countries. In turn, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stressed on June 26 that restrictions against the Russian Federation do not work, and the sanctions policy makes sense precisely when it really has an impact.
