The State Duma called for the introduction of duties on Chinese cars

As a measure to support domestic automakers, Chinese car companies should be taxed, as well as the recycling fee for cars should be increased. This initiative was made by the chairman of the State Duma Committee for the Protection of Competition, Valery Gartung, reports Lenta.Ru July 15th.

According to Hartung, Russian companies that master the full production cycle of components and assemblies should be encouraged.

"We don't need foreign partners, we can do everything ourselves. You don't need to motivate them to localize production, you need to motivate your own people. We need to protect our markets, the whole world is doing this," the deputy said.

According to the results of the first half of 2025, the share of Chinese brand cars in the Russian market was 55%, Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, previously told in his Telegram channel. In total, 530.4 thousand new passenger cars were sold in the country during this period (-26% YoY), of which 291.6 thousand cars were of Chinese brands, and 183.4 thousand were of Russian brands (34.6% share).

Low sales and internal competition reduce profitability

On July 1, it was reported that relatively new Chinese used cars began to lose value rapidly. From January to June, such cars aged from one to three years on the secondary market fell in price by an average of 10-15%.
