Dentist named the cause of bleeding gums when brushing teeth
Bleeding gums is one of the most common symptoms that patients have come to the dentist with. Many people noticed blood when brushing their teeth or eating, without paying attention to it. However, this may conceal serious inflammatory processes in the oral cavity. Olga Albova, a leading dentist and therapist at the Dentistoff clinic, told Izvestia about this on July 16.
As the expert explained, the main cause of bleeding is plaque, which accumulates pathogens.
"Due to plaque, due to microorganisms and the increased content of certain microorganisms in the oral cavity, caries is formed. That is, if we prevent the excessive proliferation of microorganisms, then, accordingly, there will be no caries," Albova explained.
Gum inflammation begins with plaque formation. In a mild form, the disease is called gingivitis, which is manifested by redness, swelling and bleeding. If you do not start treatment at this stage, gingivitis can turn into periodontitis, a more severe form in which the tissues around the tooth are destroyed, mobility appears, and in advanced cases, tooth loss.
Self-medication, according to the expert, is not only ineffective, but can also be harmful. Decoctions, ointments and folk methods eliminate the symptoms only temporarily and do not affect the root cause.
In clinics, treatment begins with professional hygiene: the stone is removed by ultrasound, plaque is cleaned with an Air Flow device, the surface of the teeth is polished, and then the enamel is fluoridated.

If gingivitis has already turned into periodontitis, more complex methods are used — vector therapy, delicate cleaning with an ultrasound device, and laser therapy, a procedure that stimulates tissue regeneration and destroys microbes.
It is necessary to consult a doctor immediately if bleeding, soreness and mobility of teeth increase, because these are signs that the disease is progressing, and cleaning alone is not enough. For prevention, Albova advises brushing your teeth twice a day, using an irrigator, dental floss and a monopuckle brush (individual selection of funds), and coming for an examination every six months.
On July 3, Irina Didenko, an orthodontist and speaker of the EUROKAPPA Academy, told Izvestia that orthodontic treatment is an important step towards improving health and quality of life. However, treatment with braces is not suitable for all patients: there are a number of contraindications that must be considered before starting therapy.
