The defense of former Russian Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, who was sentenced to 13 years in a penal colony for embezzlement, appealed the verdict. This was announced on July 15 by his lawyer Denis Baluyev.

"We have filed an appeal against Timur Ivanov's sentence. In it, the defense asks to cancel the decision of the court of first instance in the embezzlement case, to stop criminal prosecution on it and insists on acquitting its client," Baluyev was quoted as saying by TASS.
