Orthopedic pillows may have different fillers that cause allergies. Nadezhda Logina, an allergist and immunologist, told about this on Monday, July 14, commenting on the situation when a Muscovite woman bought a latex hypoallergenic pillow and suffered a severe allergic attack on the first night.

"Latex is a fairly strong allergen. Allergies to it can be in the form of dermatitis, eczema of the hands — especially often with severe skin sensitivity," the allergist said in an interview with Radio 1.

The expert noted that latex is constantly present in our lives (in gloves, condoms, children's toys, balloons), but Quincke's edema occurs, as a rule, when a cross-food allergy joins. 360.ru .

"A cross-allergy to latex can be expressed in the form of hypersensitivity and even intolerance to bananas, avocados, tomatoes, kiwis, citrus fruits. And when it joins, there may be systemic reactions in the form of edema or even an anaphylactic reaction," she explained.

Logina added that anaphylactic reactions to latex are practically not described in the literature, so it is important to know all the accompanying factors.

Earlier, a resident of Moscow had laryngeal edema after using a latex pillow. It turned out that the woman had a cross-allergic reaction to this material, writes Life.Ru .
