Experts gave tips on improving the quality of sleep in the heat
Approximately 83.3% of Russians suffer from insomnia caused by heat. The most common symptoms of this condition include increased sweating (56.6%) and frequent awakenings (41.6%). On July 15, ORMATEK brand experts shared tips with Izvestia that will help you maintain your health and get a good night's sleep.
It is noted that heat negatively affects the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone. Long light days also contribute to the disruption of biorhythms, which further worsens the situation.
Russians use various methods to combat insomnia in hot conditions: 78.3% of respondents ventilate rooms, 65% use air conditioners and fans, and 38.3% turn over pillows to cool down. Experts recommend creating a comfortable environment for relaxation by keeping the temperature in the bedroom no higher than +22 degrees, as well as using high-quality linens and mattresses with good ventilation.
"Many of these methods help only for a short time and solve only part of the problem. In order to really cool down and get enough sleep, it is important to create a favorable environment for sleeping comprehensively, starting from the microclimate in the room to the choice of bedding," explains Sergey Istomin, brand manager at ORMATEK.
In addition, if a person's snoring has increased, there are delays in breathing during sleep or constant drowsiness during the day, experts strongly recommend contacting a somnologist. This is especially true for people over the age of 40, as such symptoms can indicate serious health problems, including sleep apnea.
On July 12, psychologist Natalia Naumova noted that it becomes more difficult to work in hot weather due to decreased concentration and decreased productivity. She recommended that to minimize the negative effects, choose light foods, engage in physical activity and ventilate the room more often.
