The Second Western District Military Court found Boris Akunin (real name Grigory Chkhartishvili, recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) guilty in the case of justifying terrorism and sentenced him in absentia to 14 years in a high—security penal colony. This was reported on July 14 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.
It is specified that Akunin will serve the first four years of his sentence in prison, and the rest of his term in a high—security colony.
On the same day, the prosecution requested Akunin's 18 years in absentia in the terrorism justification case. In addition, Akunin is accused of facilitating terrorism and evading the duties of a foreign agent.
On May 30, it was reported that the criminal case against him had been brought to court. According to the Investigative Committee of Russia, Akunin was twice found guilty by the court of violating the procedure for the activities of a foreign agent. A criminal case was opened against Akunin for publicly justifying terrorism and spreading deliberately false information about the Russian Armed Forces in December 2023.
