In six months, the number of accidents involving electric scooters in Moscow decreased by 60% (from 738 to 297 cases) compared to the same period last year. This was stated by Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of the capital for Transport and Industry.

He added that the number of incidents involving children had decreased by 50%.

According to Liksutov, over 60 million electric scooter trips are made in Moscow annually, of which 85% are for transportation purposes. Given the demand for this seasonal transport, new measures have been introduced to improve travel safety.

So, in order to get access to the rental, it is now necessary to undergo mandatory verification through the Mos ID. This allows you to identify accounts of minors in advance and restrict their access to the service. Since the start of the rental season, 32 thousand accounts have been blocked that have not passed age verification.

An experiment is also underway in Moscow to reduce the maximum permitted speed of electric scooters in the city from 25 to 20 km/h. Today, there are 350 slow zones in the city, where rental scooters slow down to 5-15 km/h thanks to a special built-in Iot module. The cameras analyze areas with heavy traffic where accidents occur, and residents' appeals are considered. Based on this, Moscow is deciding on the need to introduce new slow zones.

Since the start of the season, scooter users have received 39,000 fines for violations that are recorded directly by traffic police officers or data center cameras using artificial intelligence.

Also, in order to reduce the number of violators who ride on the same scooter together and do not dismount at pedestrian crossings, new technologies developed using AI and machine learning methods are being tested in the capital, Liksutov emphasized.
