Karapetyan announced the creation of a new political force in Armenia

Businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan, who is under arrest, announced the creation of a new political force in Armenia. The corresponding statement of the entrepreneur was published on July 14 on his Facebook protection page (owned by Meta, whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

"We will create a fundamentally new political force. <...> We will go our own way, with our new team, not excluding internal political cooperation with like—minded people," Karapetyan said.

He pointed to his own vision of the country's future and stressed that he respects all forces that are fighting against the policies of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his team.

Karapetyan's detention became known on June 18. He was charged with calling for the seizure of power in Armenia, after which he was arrested for two months. Armenian politician Arman Abovyan called the businessman's detention an attempt to weaken the influence of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC), which is publicly supported by the detained businessman.
