Germany announced its refusal to supply long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine
The German authorities refused to supply long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, although they received a corresponding request from Kiev. This was announced on July 13 by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in an interview with the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.
"He stated that Germany would not supply Ukraine with its Taurus long-range missiles, despite <...> a new request from Kiev," the publication says.
Pistorius noted that Germany itself has "only six" Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems. At the same time, he will soon have to hold a meeting with US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, during which the issue of the sale by the United States of two such systems intended for Ukraine will be considered.
According to the official, Germany is also currently discussing a plan for the purchase of military equipment until the 2030s. It is noted that the plans include the acquisition of new drones, tanks, fighter jets and even submarines.
On July 1, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that he had discussed with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky the possible training of the Ukrainian military in handling Taurus cruise missiles. He also clarified that Germany would no longer publicly discuss the issue of arms supplies to Kiev.
