Russian President Vladimir Putin said that in 2007 he wrote his speech for the Munich Security Conference while he was on a plane, completely rewriting the preliminary draft prepared by his colleagues.

"I wrote this speech in Munich while I was on the plane. While we were flying to Munich, I looked at a preliminary draft of what my colleagues had prepared for me, put it aside and rewrote everything in its entirety," Putin told VGTRK journalist Pavel Zarubin.

As the Russian leader noted, the reason for his speech was not a desire to move to confrontation.

The Head of State delivered a speech at the Munich Security Conference on February 10, 2007. He proposed new rules of the game to the world, warning of the consequences of preserving the old foundations. Putin pointed to the dangerous strategy of the United States and NATO, whose forces are approaching the Russian borders. He also noted that Russia supports the privilege of pursuing an independent foreign policy.
