- The Ministry of Internal Affairs told about the attacks of scammers on teenagers under the guise of school psychologists
Scammers attack teenagers under the guise of school and university psychologists, offering to undergo alleged psychological testing. This was announced on July 13 by the Department for the Organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
"Under the pretext of the need to undergo "psychological testing" or "verify data," they send a phishing link to messengers, then intimidate teenagers, claiming that their personal data has leaked online, and threaten criminal prosecution," the department told TASS.
It is noted that by exerting pressure and using psychological techniques, teenagers are persuaded to secretly withdraw and transfer large amounts of money from their parents' accounts, apply for loans for themselves or their parents, and transfer cash to couriers. The Interior Ministry warns that teenagers are usually spoken to by false law enforcement officers who can make video calls in uniform, show fake IDs, and also demand complete secrecy.
On July 11, Igor Balynin, an associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, spoke about actions in case of erroneous transfer from fraudsters. According to the expert, in case of an erroneous transfer from fraudsters to an account, you need to contact the bank yourself and report this erroneous receipt, you cannot transfer money to the attackers yourself.
