Lavrov and Kim Jong-un pointed to Western military activity on the Korean Peninsula

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un agreed that the reason for the growing tension on the Korean peninsula is the buildup of Western military activity. This was announced on July 13 on the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"The parties agreed that the reason for the growing tension in the subregion is the increased military activity of the United States and its allies, the increased frequency of military maneuvers involving a nuclear component," the publication says.

It is noted that the parties adhere to common positions on the settlement of the situation on the Korean peninsula and advocate solving all emerging problems exclusively through political and diplomatic methods.

The discussion also touched upon the development of Russian-Korean relations, including practical measures to implement previously reached agreements. The Russian side also expressed gratitude for the consistent support from the DPRK, including for the participation of the Korean military in operations in the Kursk region.

"The Russian side expressed sincere gratitude for Pyongyang's consistent and principled support for Russia's special military operation and the participation of soldiers of the Korean People's Army in the expulsion of Ukrainian nationalists and foreign mercenaries from the territory of the Kursk region," the statement said.

The republic is also ready to receive Russian tourists.

At a reception hosted by the DPRK government in honor of his visit to the republic on July 12, Lavrov said that Moscow and Pyongyang are fulfilling their Comprehensive strategic partnership agreement and plan to continue to adhere to this line in the future. The Russian Foreign Minister noted that Moscow and Pyongyang make a great contribution to ensuring the implementation of international laws and the principle of equality of states.
