The European Union (EU) and Japan plan to create their own satellite network to reduce dependence on the United States in this area. This was reported on July 12 by Nikkei with reference to the draft agreement that was prepared for the Japan–EU summit on July 23 in Tokyo.

"Japan and the European Union plan to create an extensive network of communication satellites. This is part of an effort to reduce dependence on American companies such as SpaceX," the newspaper reports.

It is expected that the project will be implemented through the launch and joint operation of small satellites. At the same time, it is noted that cooperation between the two countries may be limited not only to the space field.

On June 28, SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 heavy rocket with 27 Starlink broadband Internet satellites from the Florida space center. It is noted that in 2025 alone, the organization launched over 1,400 such satellites into low-Earth orbit.
