French President Emmanuel Macron expressed "strong disagreement" with the introduction of new import duties from the European Union (EU) in the United States on August 1 in the amount of 30%, which were announced by American leader Donald Trump. The politician made a corresponding statement on July 12 on the social network X (Ex. Twitter).

"Together with the President of the European Commission, France expresses its strong disagreement with the announcement of the introduction of horizontal tariffs of 30% on exports from the EU to the United States from August 1," Macron said.

According to him, the EU and the United States had previously negotiated a possible resolution of the tariff situation. However, they did not lead to practical results.

Earlier in the day, Trump announced the imposition of duties of 30% on EU goods from August 1. Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto blamed the introduction of tariffs on the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. In turn, von der Leyen and the head of the European Parliament's International Trade committee, Bernd Lange, threatened the United States with countermeasures if duties were imposed against the EU.
