Slovakia intends to reach an agreement with the European Commission (EC) on the supply of Russian energy resources by July 15. This was announced by Prime Minister Robert Fico at a press conference on July 12.

"We want to reach an agreement by Tuesday. We want to find solutions," the TASR news agency quoted him as saying.

Fico added that Slovakia will vote for a new package of anti-Russian sanctions only if it receives guarantees from the EC on the issue of energy resources from Russia.

Bloomberg reported on July 11 that the EC was ready to provide Slovakia with some guarantees in exchange for ending the blocking of a new package of sanctions against Russia. It was clarified that Slovakia is seeking concessions on the European Union's (EU) plan to phase out Russian gas.
