Merz dropped a piece of cake with a picture of Germany
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz dropped a plate with a cake with an image of Germany on it. This was reported by the Bild newspaper.
The incident occurred at the annual summer party of the Christian Democrats (CDU) parliamentary group on small and medium-sized businesses on July 9. The publication clarifies that at the event, everyone was treated to a cake in the shape of Germany.
"Chancellor Merz cut himself a piece — of course, from the part of the cake that depicts his home constituency of Sauerland," the publication says.
The chancellor first cut himself a piece of dessert, then, communicating with politicians, he dropped first a fork, and then a plate of cake.
Earlier, on July 11, Grigory Karasin, chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, accused Merz of fomenting World War II with statements about the militarization of Germany. According to him, the Chancellor became significantly "carried away by Germanophilia and a passion for military solutions."
