Lavrov spoke about North Korea's support for all its goals
On July 12, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, at a press conference following talks with North Korean Foreign Minister Choi Song-hee in Wonsan, said that Moscow had no reason to refuse to help the DPRK military in a special operation, it was a sincere show of solidarity.
During the talks, the sides exchanged views on the conflict in Ukraine. The DPRK has confirmed its unequivocal support for all the objectives of the special military operation and the actions of the Russian leadership and the Russian Armed Forces.
"We had no reason to refuse a sincere show of solidarity (from DPRK Chairman Kim Jong-un.— Ed.). We proceed from the fact that the DPRK itself determines the forms in which we implement our strategic partnership agreement," Lavrov said, answering the question whether it is possible to involve the DPRK military in combat operations during a special operation after their participation in the liberation of the Kursk region.
In addition, he expressed gratitude for the participation of the Korean People's Army soldiers in the liberation of the Kursk region from Ukrainian militants and foreign mercenaries. As the Russian Foreign Minister noted, the initiative in providing military assistance belongs to the DPRK.
Earlier in the day, Lavrov stressed that the Russian Federation and the DPRK have almost complete convergence of approaches in the foreign policy sphere. He also recalled that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement concluded with the DPRK in 2024 reflects the allied nature. The head of the department clarified that the agreement lays down the principles of cooperation in the international arena.
