The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the United States did not receive almost 70% of calls from flood victims in Texas. This was reported by the NYT newspaper on July 12, citing relevant documents.

According to the newspaper, the victims were unable to contact the organization because the agency terminated contracts with call center employees. Their contracts were valid only until July 5 and have not been extended.

FEMA is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

"Kristy Noem, the Secretary of Homeland Security, who introduced a new requirement that she personally approve expenses in excess of $100,000, did not renew contracts until Thursday, five days after the expiration of contracts," the publication says.

On July 9, the NYT newspaper reported 119 dead and 173 missing in Texas as a result of flooding. It was noted that the majority of deaths occurred in Kerr County.

The flooding that occurred in Kerr County, which caused multiple damage, became known on July 4. Then a state of emergency was declared in the region.
