The authorities of the city of Los Angeles will provide financial assistance to victims of migration raids initiated by the administration of US President Donald Trump. This was reported on July 11 by The Los Angeles Times (LAT) newspaper with reference to the mayor's statement.

"Mayor Karen Bass on Friday announced a plan to provide direct monetary assistance to people affected by the large—scale immigration raids of the Trump administration," the publication says.

During her speech at the press conference, the official clarified that support would be provided using cash cards with "a couple hundred" dollars in the account.

Speaking about the need for such measures, Bass cited the example of a family that needed to have two sources of income to pay for housing. As a result of the raids, one of the breadwinners was detained, which created a threat of eviction for people.

At the same time, it is not currently known what requirements will be imposed for obtaining financial assistance.

"The mayor stressed that the money will come not from the city treasury, but from philanthropic partners. The cards will be distributed by immigrant rights organizations such as the Coalition for the Humane Rights of Los Angeles Immigrants," the newspaper notes.

On May 5, the US Department of Homeland Security announced the government's plan to pay illegal migrants $1,000 each if they decide to leave the country on their own initiative. It was clarified that in order to receive payments, migrants need to register in the CBP Home application. After returning to his native country, which will be confirmed through the application, the US administration will transfer $ 1 thousand.
