In the modern world, there will be a trend towards the consumption of dried algae instead of chips, which are rich in iodine. About the consequences of overeating with such a snack on July 12, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by Dmitry Bystrov, Associate Professor of the Department of Food Industry, Hospitality and Service at ROSBIOTECH University.

Despite the fact that seaweed chips are a source of many vitamins and minerals and an excellent product for detoxification of the body, excessive consumption of them, according to the expert, contributes to disruption of the entire body.

"Overeating algae chips leads to an excess of iodine, and this, in turn, disrupts the function of the thyroid gland. <...> Moreover, some manufacturers add a lot of salt to the product, which is dangerous for hypertension and kidney diseases. Algae can also accumulate arsenic, lead, and cadmium," Bystrov said.

He advised eating dried seaweed no more than 2-3 times a week, one leaf per meal. At the same time, if there are disorders of the thyroid gland, the specialist recommended that you consult a doctor.

Earlier, on May 22, endocrinologist Inna Misnikova spoke about measures to prevent thyroid diseases. She noted that people who do not live near the sea do not have enough iodine, and it is necessary for the production of thyroid hormones.
