Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had the opportunity to conclude a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, but refused to do so under pressure from allied far-right forces. This was reported on July 11 by The New York Times (NYT), citing its own investigation.

"In the first hours of the war, Netanyahu rejected the proposal of the leader of the Israeli opposition to form a government of national unity, preferring to remain in a coalition with far-right extremists who are more likely to allow him to remain in power after the war," the publication says.

It is noted that as a result, the head of Israel actually found himself obliged to comply with all the political demands of his allies. This includes the possibility of concluding a truce with the radical Palestinian movement Hamas.

Earlier, on July 8, Netanyahu said that Israel intends to achieve all its goals in Gaza during the armed conflict. He added that he is in constant contact with US President Donald Trump, which helps the countries to maintain communication about the situation in the sector.
