Former rector of the Academy of Social Sciences, an outstanding statesman and party leader, economist and scientist Vadim Andreevich Medvedev died at the age of 97. This was announced by RANHiGS on the official website of the university.

The cause of death of the scientist is not specified.

Vadim Andreevich Medvedev was born on March 29, 1929. Since 1970, he worked in the staff of the Central Committee of the CPSU, from 1978 to 1983 he headed the Academy of Social Sciences, the predecessor of the Presidential Academy (RANEPA). He was also secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, a member of the Politburo, chairman of the Ideological Commission, and a member of the Presidential Council.

Vadim Andreevich Medvedev played an important role in the ideological renewal of the country during the years of perestroika. Subsequently, he continued his scientific and public activities at the Gorbachev Foundation and the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He taught at leading universities in Leningrad (then St. Petersburg) and Moscow.
