Warsaw demands Kiev's consent to search for and exhume the victims of the Volyn massacre. This was announced on Friday, July 11, by Polish President-elect Karol Nawrocki.

"I consistently demand a systematic solution by the Ukrainian authorities to the issue of consent to the search and exhumation of victims of the Volyn genocide. Reconciliation can only be based on the truth," Navrotsky wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

He stressed that the victims deserve a decent burial, and their families have the right to come and pray at their relatives' graves.

"Bloody Sunday, July 11, 1943, symbolizes the apogee of the brutality of the criminals of the UPA (Ukrainian Insurgent Army, banned in the Russian Federation. — Ed.). For us Poles, this day is a time of reflection and prayer, remembering the brutally murdered children, women and the elderly," said Navrotsky.

On June 5, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine condemned Poland's decision to grant state status to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Volyn massacre. It was noted that the Polish parliament almost unanimously (435 votes out of 436) supported the initiative to introduce a memorable date on July 11 as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the events of 1943.

On July 2, Polish President Andrzej Duda signed a law on the national day of remembrance of Poles who became victims of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (OUN-UPA, banned in the Russian Federation).
