- The media reported on the EC's readiness to give Slovakia guarantees for the sake of new sanctions against the Russian Federation.
The European Commission (EC) is ready to provide Slovakia with some guarantees in exchange for ending the blocking of a new package of sanctions against Russia. This was reported by Bloomberg on July 11, citing sources.
"The executive branch of the bloc is ready to provide the country with some guarantees if it withdraws its veto," the publication says.
It is specified that Slovakia is seeking concessions under the European Union (EU) plan to phase out Russian gas.
The publication notes that restrictions on Russian oil prices have been criticized for a weak control mechanism, but still used in a number of Western sanctions.
On the same day, the Reuters news agency reported that the European Commission plans to propose a flexible ceiling on prices for Russian oil by the European Union (EU) countries. The EC plans to implement this initiative as part of the draft new anti-Russian sanctions. Thus, the limit set by the association for oil prices from Russia may drop from $60 to $45 per barrel.
