Scooters have long been a popular urban transport option, allowing you to avoid traffic jams and save time. However, there are also risks associated with convenience — falls, collisions, and injuries. Elena Kosheleva, Director of Sberbank Insurance projects, told Izvestia on July 12 how to protect herself.

"Even careful and experienced users may encounter unforeseen situations: uneven pavement, wet roads, sudden appearance of other road users. The built—in insurance in kicksharing services more often covers damage to third parties, and the protection of the driver himself is limited in terms of amounts and conditions," explained Kosheleva.

She noted that the insurance cover is valid only during the rental period, and when traveling on a personal scooter or after the end of the rental session, it does not work.

"If you ride regularly, it's worth considering a personal insurance policy. It is not tied to a specific service, it covers domestic and street injuries — from bruises to fractures. Compensation depends on the diagnosis and can be directed to treatment, medications or rehabilitation," the expert added.

The specialist noted that such a policy is valid regardless of whether it is a rented scooter or a personal one, and gives confidence in protection under any circumstances.

"Relying only on built—in insurance is unreliable. An individual policy will help you recover faster from an injury and not be left with high costs," Kosheleva summed up.

Earlier, on April 17, it was reported that the speed limit for all electric scooters of kicksharing operators in Russia had decreased to 20 km/h. This is 20% less than the maximum permitted speed of personal mobility vehicles, according to the rules of the road.
