Extreme season: what other temperature records await Muscovites in July
From July 11 to July 13, 2025 in Moscow, there is a high probability of repeating past records or setting new ones, meteorologists told Izvestia. Next week, the temperature in the capital region will drop to +25...+26 degrees, rain is possible. Stores are reporting a sharp jump in sales of fans and air conditioners. Doctors warn that heat is dangerous for people with diseases of the cardiovascular system, respiratory organs, weakened immune systems, and obesity. How to survive the extreme Russian July is in the Izvestia article.
When the heat ends
The sweltering heat in Moscow, where the temperature record for July 10 has been updated for the first time since 1996, will begin to decline on the 13th, Tatyana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonosti news agency, told Izvestia.
+33 is expected in Moscow and the Moscow region on Saturday, July 12...+35 degrees, which is 7-8 degrees above the climatic norm, but in the coming days the air temperature will decrease.
"This Sunday and all next week, from July 14 to July 20, rains are expected in some areas of Moscow and the Moscow region," she said.
At the same time, a significant cooling, according to the meteorologist, should not be expected — the maximum temperature these days can reach +26 ... +28 degrees.
— At the same time, in the second half of July, the maximum temperature on some days may rise to +30 degrees, — said Tatiana Pozdnyakova.
In the period from July 11 to July 13, 2025, there is a high probability of either repeating temperature records or setting new ones, she believes. For July 11, the maximum temperature was recorded in 1996: then the air in the metropolitan region warmed up to +35.6 degrees, for July 12 — in 1903 (+34.5 degrees), for July 13 — in 2021 (+33.6 degrees).
According to Roman Vilfand, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center, rains with thunderstorms and wind strengthening up to 15-17 meters per second may occur in some parts of the Moscow Region on July 12.
"At the same time, precipitation is not expected in most parts of Moscow," he said. — And on July 13, the metropolitan region will be covered by short-term rains and thunderstorms, the maximum air temperature is forecast in the range of +30...+32 degrees.
Extremely hot weather is recorded not only during the day, but also at night, Roman Vilfand noted. In the residential areas of Moscow, the maximum temperature at night can reach +20 degrees, and in the center — up to + 23.
— You can call them "Egyptian nights", and this is not an exaggeration, because the air masses come from Egypt, — the expert explained. — High-rise buildings and asphalt do not have time to release the heat accumulated during the day, so such ultra-high temperatures persist at night.
The heat wave has covered the entire central part of Russia, in particular, the Rostov, Volgograd, Astrakhan regions, Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, the expert said.
The heat is expected to weaken on July 14-15. On Wednesday, July 16, and Thursday, July 17, the daytime air temperature in Moscow will be +25...+26 degrees, added Roman Vilfand. At night — up to +14...+19 degrees. +21 is forecast for the weekend of July 19th and 20th...+26 degrees, at night — +12...+17 degrees.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations recommended that Muscovites wear hats and clothes made of natural fabrics, drink more water and stay in the shade if possible. According to tradition, cool water was distributed free of charge to passengers of Moscow transport.
The hunt for air conditioners
From July 7 to July 10, the demand for fans increased by almost 70%, and sales of mobile air conditioners that do not require special installation increased by 56%, the Wildberries press service told Izvestia.
"Sales of mini-air conditioners, also called portable, can jump by as much as 200% on hot days. Such a purchase may well be spontaneous," they noted.
Over the past week, sales of hand—held air conditioners have increased by 71%, and new devices by more than one and a half times, said Pavel Komarov, head of the Electronics and Home Appliances business at Avito. At the same time, the average cost of new models, according to him, has not changed over the past month — in the first week of July 2025, it was about 20 thousand rubles, on the secondary market — 11 thousand rubles.
The trend was also confirmed by the press service of the company "M.Video-El Dorado". There, sales of air conditioners in the second week of July almost doubled compared to the previous one, and fans — 4.5 times,
— The demand for climate technology has grown sharply against the background of persistent heat, especially in the Central, Southern and Far Eastern Federal Districts. Customers choose both simple and affordable solutions for fast cooling, as well as stationary models with installation," said Maxim Medtner, senior manager of the company's Climate category.
Natalia Sokolova, Brand director of MDV, a manufacturer of climate control equipment, confirmed that the hot weather is stimulating demand for air conditioners. According to her, at the moment, demand growth in the capital is still about 30%.
— A common mistake is to set the air conditioner to too low a temperature. The range of +22 is considered safe and comfortable...+25 degrees," she said. — When returning from the street, it is advisable to set the temperature five to seven degrees lower than outside the window, gradually reducing it to comfortable values. This will avoid a sharp thermal stress on the body. Otherwise, colds, headaches, and general malaise are possible.
How to survive the heat
Heat is dangerous for people with diseases of the cardiovascular system, respiratory organs, weakened immune systems, obesity, children and the elderly over 60 are at risk, doctors told Izvestia.
"How our body reacts to changing weather depends on the body's adaptive capabilities," said Olga Shuppo, founder of the Grand Clinic network. — They can be trained by replenishing deficiencies of vitamins and trace elements, eliminating foci of chronic inflammation in the body, adjusting the diet, sleep patterns, adding moderate physical activity in the fresh air.
To reduce the risks in the heat, it is important to drink enough water to maintain a temperature balance, as well as reduce physical activity, avoid direct sunlight and overheating of the body and head, said dermatologist Zarema Omarova.
To cool the body, you can put a soaked handkerchief or towel on your neck so that the blood cools and "gets colder to the brain," explained Andrei Kondrakhin, Candidate of Medical Sciences.
"Clothes should be light, practically weightless, and preferably white,— he added. — Shoes should be comfortable and ventilated, such as slates. You can also use a thermal spray bottle to spray your face. There are a large number of receptors on the face that are responsible for temperature.
During the heat, it is necessary to drink at least two liters of water, and before going outside, it is necessary to apply a cream with a sun protection factor, said Dali Dzeitova, an endocrinologist at the Sinai Clinic.
— The feeling of thirst during the heat is disturbed, so you need to regularly maintain the water balance, — said the expert.
It is also important to give up coffee and sugary sodas, they increase dehydration, the doctor noted.
