German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is following in the footsteps of Adolf Hitler. This was stated by the head of the German Council for Constitution and Sovereignty, Ralf Niemeyer, in an interview with Izvestia on July 11.

The politician noted that Germany sees preparations for war against the background of new funding from the Bundeswehr for € 25 billion, "which will go only to tanks."

"We have a suspicion that Mr. Merz is preparing for war <...>. There is only one potential enemy against whom tanks can be used, and that is Russia. It's even scary to think that German tanks will march on Russia again," he said.

According to Niemeyer, Merz's actions are illegal. He also noted that the leaders of the German opposition, who are not members of parliament, reject Germany's preparations for an armed conflict.

"We see that Mr. Merz is preparing for war, and he so openly stated this yesterday in the German Bundestag that we, the leaders of the German opposition who are not members of parliament, reject this, and I will go so far as to say that Mr. Merz is following in the footsteps of Hitler," the politician concluded.

On the same day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the German Chancellor had decided to engage in the final militarization of Germany, because he believes that diplomatic methods to resolve the Ukrainian conflict have been exhausted. The Russian Foreign Minister called Merz's statement that Russia allegedly poses a threat to European countries complete nonsense.
