Users should not give messengers access to their location, but the app will not function properly without permission to use the camera and microphone. This was stated by cybersecurity expert Alexey Rayevsky, speaking about the ability of applications to monitor the user.

"For messengers to work, you need access to files so that you can send files and pictures, to the camera so that you can record videos and make some video calls, and to the microphone so that you can make regular voice calls. Therefore, if you do not give such permissions to the messenger, then, most likely, it will not work normally. It's up to each user to choose whether to give access or not," Rayevsky said in an interview with aif.ru .

The application does not need geo-location data for the messengers to work normally, the expert added.

"They usually don't request such information. But a microphone, a video camera, files, these are all usually necessary for normal operation. And [for] all this, you have to give permission, and this is quite enough for full-fledged tracking of the user.

Earlier, on July 7, Rayevsky told what users should do to stop possible surveillance through smart devices.

According to the expert, vulnerabilities appear in the devices during operation, which the manufacturer is in no hurry to eliminate. Fraudsters can take advantage of this by introducing special malicious software (software) into gadgets to collect information.

On July 2, Roskachestvo announced that laptop owners should tape the camera and microphone on their devices, the Moscow City News agency reports.

Ilya Korneychuk, the host of the YouTube channel Pro Hi-Tech, an expert on gadgets, clarified in an interview with NSN that it is useful to tape webcams to minimize the risks of personal data leakage in case of hacking.

In turn, Oscar Ismagilov, chief expert on the architecture of the MegaFon radio access network, warned that constantly turning on Wi-Fi on a smartphone can lead to financial losses. 360.ru .

The expert recalled that the enabled Wi-Fi is looking for available networks to connect to. If the smartphone was previously connected to a public network, then a login and password will not be required, RT reports.
