President of the European Parliament (EP) Roberta Metsola rejected a proposal to hold a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Volyn massacre. This was announced on July 10 by EP deputy Anna Brylka.

"There will be no minute of silence in the European Parliament in memory of the victims of the Ukrainian genocide in Volhynia," she wrote on the social network X (former. Twitter).

According to the MP, Metsola not only refused to support the initiative of the Polish side, but also made it clear that such a memorial event would not take place.

"Not all victims of totalitarian regimes in the European Union enjoy equal respect," Brylka stressed.

She added that "the victims are not crying out for revenge, but for memory and truth."

On June 5, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine condemned Poland's decision to grant state status to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Volyn massacre. It was noted that the Polish Parliament almost unanimously (435 votes out of 436) supported the initiative to introduce a memorable date on July 11 as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the events of 1943.

On July 2, Polish President Andrzej Duda signed a law on the national day of remembrance of Poles who became victims of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (OUN-UPA, banned in the Russian Federation).
